Residents will get to warm up by the Burnett River when the Chilli and Lime Festival kicks off at Riverfeast this Friday.

With salsa dancing, flamenco music and delicious chilli and lime inspired delicacies, the event is sure to get a little hot and spicy.

The flavours of local produce will hit the spot, with everything from chilli and lime barramundi to chilli-choc gelato exciting the senses.

Riverfeast’s Karen Wittkopp said the popular event had almost reached its capacity through online registrations, with many residents signing up to attend the event as soon as details were released.

She said the mouth-watering event had run for a few years but this was the first time it had opened the Bundaberg Region’s celebration of food with the Taste Bundaberg Festival.

“It would be an understatement to say we're excited,” she said.

“Where we can, all local suppliers have been welcomed and embraced, and showcase some sort of chilli and/or lime inspired creation.

“From tacos to nachos to chilli lime barramundi, chilli choc gelato, lime sorbet, lime margaritas, chilli and lime cider from Cheeky Tikki Cider, chilli vodka cocktails… the list goes on.”

Along with a variety of food vendors to tantalise the tastebuds, there will also be a host of live entertainment including Afro-Cuban salsa band, Chukale, which is sure to have toes tapping.

The Chilli and Lime Festival is only open to those who have registered to attend.

Attendees must show a print out or phone screen shot of registration confirmation at the entry.

Events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said the chilli and lime event would launch the 10 day Taste Bundaberg Festival.

“In 2021 new events have been added to old favourites to create the most exciting Taste Bundaberg Festival yet,” Cr Learnmonth said.

“Ticketed events on the Taste program have always sold out quickly and this year was no different.”

Tickets and registration details to all of the Taste Bundaberg Festival events can be found at tastebundabergfestival.com.au
