Mon Repos car park to close for construction

The Mon Repos car park is being upgraded to include more spaces.

Reconstruction of the car park area at the end of Mon Repos Road will soon be underway, with the area set to close to visitors while the work takes place.

Bundaberg Regional Council has been tasked with the job on the State Government owned land, with construction to be completed within 10 weeks.

Roads and Drainage portfolio spokesperson Cr Bill Trevor said the car park was used primarily by beach-goers and visitors to the newly renovated turtle centre in the area.

“The beautiful Mon Repos Beach has definitely grown in popularity due to the recent upgrade to the turtle centre and the keen interest from tourists,” he said.

“The new car park will hopefully be of benefit to the visitors of the beach and centre, with a revitalisation of the 20 parking spaces and bus stop area.”

Cr Trevor said the works would also include upgraded signs, line marking and car park sealing over the 10 week period.

“The carpark will be closed during construction, which has been timed to avoid turtle impacts such as the laying/hatching season,” he said.

“During construction, the road will be subject to traffic management measures and will have the appropriate signage to guide motorists through or around the site.

“Council apologies for any inconvenience caused during this time.”

The project has been funded by the Queensland Government through the Transport and Tourism Connections Project program.

Construction will begin in two weeks time.
