Nominations called for 2022 Australia Day Awards

2022 Australia Day Awards
Bundaberg Regional Council has just launched the 2022 Australia Day Awards and is calling for nominations of award recipients.

Local residents and organisations who have made significant contributions to the region will be celebrated as part of the 2022 Australia Day Awards.

Bundaberg Regional Council is calling for nominations for the annual event.

Mayor Jack Dempsey said the 2022 Australia Day Awards was an opportunity to showcase individuals and groups who had achieved exceptional results in community service, sporting, creative, environmental and business endeavours.

“We know that the beautiful Bundaberg Region is made up of so many wonderful people who are doing some pretty amazing things,” he said.

“From our tireless volunteers who give their time to support others, community groups who are passionate about providing great services in the region to sporting clubs and local businesses who go above and beyond.

“These awards aim to highlight those people and organisations who go that extra mile, who show outstanding dedication to the region and who simply love be part of their community.”

2022 Australia Day: Citizen of the Year award

Nominations are now open for the awards, with residents encouraged to nominate an individual whose commitment to the community deserved to be recognised as Citizen of the Year.

“This prestigious award category recognises an inspirational role model within our region who showcases a passion for community and a demonstration of leadership and innovation,” Mayor Dempsey said.

“The award is not limited to any field and can include people who make contributions to education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts and the environment.”

All nominees will be considered for the Citizen of the Year Award as part of the 2022 Australia Day event.

Nominees aged 25 years and under will also be considered for the Young Citizen of the Year Award.

Nominees aged 65 years and over will also be considered for the Senior Citizen of the Year Award.

Community Group or Event of the Year award

A separate award category has been allocated for groups and organisations who have supported the advancement and wellbeing of the community or an event that has resulted in positive outcomes for the region.

“The Community Group or Event of the Year award recognises groups or events fostering exceptional community spirit,” Mayor Dempsey said.

Community events nominated must be held in the Bundaberg Region in the 12 months preceding the awards date.
