An application to reconfigure oceanfront lots in Burnett Heads has been approved

The Burnett Heads Gateway Marina development is another step closer to reality as Gladstone Ports Corporation prepares to sell the oceanfront land.

GPC has been given approval to reconfigure one lot, at 67 Harbour Esplanade, into four lots, which will facilitate the sale of the land to the developers of the proposed marina.

The land is currently improved by a chandlery and the Volunteer Marine Rescue base, with marine berths associated with the Gateway Marina development already under construction.

Two stages of the Gateway Marina were granted development approval in November and December 2020 respectively.

Lodged by Sydney-based BH Developments, the first stage of the project encompasses six buildings within a master-planned harbour village including a residential precinct with low-rise apartments, waterfront villas and hotel resort.

Shops, office space, a yacht club, restaurants and a bar were incorporated into the plans.

The second development approval granted over the marina site relates to a high-end resort and tidal lagoon pool.

The resort, including restaurant and conference facilities, aims to complement the initial stage of the development and features a series of residential buildings, proposed to be distributed along the waterfront.

A range of accommodation options would be provided for, including eight two storey eco-villas fronting the proposed man-made lagoon and eight three storey waterfront villas.

Two six-storey apartment buildings each containing 70 units and another two six-storey apartment buildings each made up of 85 units, are also proposed to cater to multiple units or short-term accommodation.

This latest application for the reconfiguration of the lot states the objective is to create three development lots “generally consistent” with the approvals issued by Bundaberg Regional Council for the Gateway Marina.

The three development lots are necessary to allow sale of the land to the developer of Gateway Marina.

The reconfiguration of the lots will result in four lots ranging in size from 1.118 hectares to 7.3917 hectares.
