How to: prevent a sewer blockage

sewerage blockage fix
Find out how to prevent a sewer blockage.

Bundaberg Regional Council’s Water and Wastewater team have provided their top tips to fixing a sewer blockage on your property.

Some common causes of blocks include flushing waste not intended for the sewer or cracked and damaged pipes.

What to do if the sewer blocks

  • Check the water level in your sewer point of connection (POC) which will be on the edge of your property either in the back or front yard. Find the inspection shaft, which is a vertical pipe set in a concrete surround with a bolted pvc lid and remove the lid.
  • If the water level in the sewer connection point is high call Council’s 24-hour emergency callout service on 1300 883 699.
  • If the water level is low there might be a blockage and you will have to call a private plumber.
