Richters Joinery sales and design consultant Mariah Robinson received the Women in Building award at the recent Master Builders Wide Bay Burnett 2023 Housing & Construction Awards.

Presented at the Bargara Beach House Hotel last Saturday, this award highlights the remarkable contribution women make to the building and construction industry.

The Women in Building award is significant in showcasing the accomplishments of women that were traditionally unrecognised in a male-dominated industry.

Mariah said, fortunately, the stigma was changing.

“Its associations like Master Builders that pave the way for women like myself to shine while doing what we love,” she said.

Mariah started her career with Richters Joinery as an administration trainee in 2016.

At the start of her career, Mariah found her inexperience, youth and the nature of the business quite intimidating.

This was a motivating factor for her to excel in her studies and the behind-the-scenes operations of the building industry.

During her career journey, Mariah fell in love with interior design, colours, products and the industry.

Her skills and professionalism were acknowledged in 2021 when Mariah was promoted to the position of sales and design consultant.

She is currently increasing her knowledge in residential design by studying a Certificate IV in Kitchen and Bathroom Design.

“The award means the world to me as it truly showcases all the hard work I’ve invested into my career, and my clients,” Mariah said.

“It’s nothing short of a privilege to attain this award, I’m so proud.

“This award will pave the way for new opportunities to develop my career in this amazing industry.”

Kresten Ramage from Ramage Building was recently presented with the Rising Star award at Master Builders Wide Bay Burnett 2023 Housing & Construction Awards.

The Rising Star Award celebrates an individual’s current progression as an emerging builder in the industry.

Kresten received this award by demonstrating his involvement and commitment to the industry in the quality of his work, customer relations and dedication to his team and business.

“This award confirms we are on the right track, providing our suppliers, contractors and customers a reputable business to work with,” Kresten said.

“The Rising Star award is significant as it shows there are younger builders coming through the ranks that are adapting to modern rules.”

Ramage Building was established during the COVID pandemic, one of the most difficult times for the building industry.

Keeping a low profile and focusing on the few jobs Ramage Building was contracted to, was Kresten’s business model in the initial stages.

This allowed him to work on business planning, cashflow, regulatory requirements for contacts and complying with Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) Minimum Financial Requirements.

Kresten said, while they were still developing and learning, the award had given him and the team a boost.

“I am inspired by the many amazing projects that were showcased by our regions builders,” he said.

“This award will motivate us to hone best practices and hopefully serve the Bundaberg Region for years to come.”
