Hear For You will be bringing their workshop for teenagers to Bundaberg.

Deaf and hard of hearing students will have the chance to meet other deaf and hard of hearing youth who know firsthand the challenges of growing up deaf through a Life Goals and Skills workshop.

Hear For You, a not-for-profit organisation, will be bring the Life Goals and Skills workshop to Bundaberg on Friday 22 September.

Participants will join in team building activities along with making new connections and friendships.

Ruby, 16, who is a previous attendee at a Hear For You workshop, said she felt hopeless before she went to the workshop but was now hopeful for the future.

“I am way more confident since attending the Hear For You Workshop,” she said.

Living in a regional area like Bundaberg means opportunities to connect with other deaf or hard of hearing young people are rare, making the day even more valuable.

Hear For You Queensland manager Sherri Brereton said teenagers enjoyed the chance to spend the day with others who understood the world in a similar way that they do.

“It’s really great for them to spend the day with other kids who relate to their experience,” Sherri said.

“They can just be themselves.”

Registrations are open until Monday 18 September.

Tickets can be covered by National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding or paid for by families.

The workshop will take place 9 am to 3.30 pm at Chaverim Shalom College Outdoor Education and Environment Centre.
