First 5 Forever invites little library visitors to experience the wonders of the sea with the new Ocean Interactive Space.

Little ones and their families can experience hands on ocean themed exploration and play at the libraries over the upcoming months.

The Ocean Interactive Space has been designed to help little ones enjoy fun and enriching experiences whilst learning about the ocean and its amazing creatures.

Starting at the Gin Gin Library in February, the Ocean Interactive Space will then travel on to the Childers Library in March, before finishing its tour of the libraries at Bundaberg in May.

Bundaberg Regional Council Arts, Culture and Events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said the Ocean Interactive Space was created to encourage children’s imagination and build literacy skills.

“Amazing opportunities are developed by the libraries for families to explore and learn with their children,” Cr Learmonth said.

“The Ocean Interactive Space will be a fun and very popular initiative for little learners to discover.”

Based on the ocean, and its organisms, there will be a variety of play options with lots of open-ended activities to encourage curiosity and imagination.

Specimens of coral, sea animals and some large shells will be on display with other play-based items for the children to investigate.

The ocean themed activities aim to encourage rich language and literacy learning, whilst children and guardians explore at their own pace.

“The libraries welcome families to come in and make meaningful memories with their children and enjoy new learning experiences together,” Cr Learmonth said.
