Moncrieff’s first community movie for 2024
The Moncrieff Entertainment Centre's first free community movie for 2024 is the supernatural thriller, A Haunting in Venice.

The supernatural thriller, A Haunting in Venice is the first free community movie to be screened at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre for 2024.

This supernatural thriller is based upon the 1969 novel, Hallowe’en Party written by Agatha Christie.

The film marks the third outing for Oscar-winning actor Kenneth Branagh at the helm sitting in the director’s chair, and starring as Christie’s detective Hercule Poirot.

This loose adaptation of Christie’s novel is a departure from the previous movies with Branagh taking the film franchise in a bold new direction.

Unlike the first two instalments, a supernatural element has been added to the story which has been well received by movie goers.

Set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve, A Haunting in Venice sees Hercule Poirot now retired and living in self-imposed exile.

Poirot reluctantly accepts an invitation, from his friend novelist Ariadne Oliver played by Tina Fey, to attend a séance at a decaying and haunted palazzo.

A guest at the séance is murdered which thrusts the detective into investigating a sinister world of shadows and secrets.

While A Haunting in Venice is connected to the previous movies through Branagh’s character, the film can be enjoyed as a standalone whodunnit mystery.

A stellar crew of award-winning actors have been cast in this thriller with Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, Riccardo Scamarcio and Michelle Yeoh joining Kenneth Branagh.
