Having been coached by our own Linda Hannah today they joined us for the first game in their bowls journey.

After a nervous start both relaxed and played some good bowls under the watchful eye of Coach Linda!

Special mention should be made of their team players, Robbie Hannah, Lorelle Mattson and Marilyn Mullins who supported and encouraged them all the way!

Saturday 24 February: What a feast of fabulous bowls we had today: The premier event being the final of the Open Mens Pairs played between Team Rowdy and Team Maurie.

We also had two games in the Open Ladies Singles as well as social bowls, something for everyone!

Ladies first: Robyn Bishop had a win over newcomer Michelle Wood in a close game 25/22.

Congratulations to Robyn but also to Michelle who gave the more experienced Robyn a run for her money! Thanks to Suzanne Weir for marking the match.

The second game, also a hard fought one between Cheryl Goodhew and Gloria Newby resulting in a win to Cheryl after 31 ends, what a marathon effort! Thanks to Ann Sleep who was the marker for the match.

Now for the big one, the game that bought the crowd!

The final of the Open Mens Pairs which resulted in a win to Team Rowdy but not before some nail biting moments!

The early stages had Team Maurie wiping the floor with Team Rowdy in fact on end 7 the score was 11/0 to Team Maurie!

Team Rowdy appeared not to have an answer to Maurie and Keith’s run of good shots!

However never discount a pair of tough nuts like Rowdy and Ian, they fought back slowly with everything they had!

A few twos, a four, a three and a one saw them take the lead 14/13 on end 14, when it was then their turn to surge ahead!

Team Maurie was stuck on 13 for 6 ends which sealed the fate of the match with Team Rowdy taking the win 30/15.

A large crowd enjoyed the spectacle of a great match played in the true spirit of the game of bowls.

Team Rowdy: Rowdy Taylor, Ian Goodhew

Team Maurie: Keith Sleep, Maurie Stranio

Special thanks to Rob Anderson who stood as Umpire for the day.

Winning Rink Draw: Social Rink 15: Dean Kulbars, Bob Winzar.

Sunday 25 February: Another game in the Open Women’s Singles as well as social triples played today.

Open Ladies: Fiona Dowling had win over Meredith Taylor, thanks to Donna Smith who was the marker for the match.

Special thanks to Rob Anderson who was the Umpire for the day.

Winning Rink Draw: Rink 12: Gordon Ibbotson, Trevor Christensen, Lyall Brettell
