Mild temperatures return to beaches this weekend

Well, it has been another mixed week of weather across the local region this week, with mostly sunny skies, another round of cool temperatures on Monday and Tuesday and then mild temperatures returning along with the moderate onshore winds since Wednesday.

The next few days will bring a continuation of these milder temperatures, the chance of a shower on Saturday and Sunday, and more of these onshore winds – but they will only be light to moderate at worst.

This morning’s winds will be from the South at around 15 knots before they start to swing more from the S/SE and then E/SE, and even drop slightly back to 10 to 15 knots.

Tomorrow and Sunday are then looking almost identical in terms of the wind forecast, with 10+ knots of S/SE to E/SE winds expected throughout both days.

Swimming

Swimming conditions have been pretty good during this past week, with slightly choppy conditions just starting to kick in from about Wednesday when the onshore winds returned and strengthened once again.

These onshore winds will continue over the coming days but they will only be moderate at worst – and more so through the afternoons.

The mornings will be the best time for a swim though over the coming days – any time from early morning through until around mid to late morning – as this is when the winds will be slightly lighter but also from a more southerly direction.

The best beaches for swimmers over the coming days will be Agnes Water, Hervey Bay, Nielson Park Beach and Moore Park Beach but generally we should see reasonable conditions across all beaches apart from some slight chop through the afternoons.

Please check with the lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages, and most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you!

Beach patrols

Weekdays: 9 am to 5 pm at Agnes Water only.

Saturday and Sunday: 9 am to 5 pm at Kelly's Beach and Agnes Water only.

Surfing

Once again, it has not been a great week of waves this week – actually it has been pretty poor!

We have a good run for the past month but this past week has been mostly flat and only tiny to small at best.

Looking ahead to today and across the weekend, the forecast is not spectacular but we should see a slight increase in wave heights to hopefully produce enough action to entice the boards back into the water.

Best options will be Agnes Water, Mon Repos, Moore Park Beach and Nielson Park Beach, with early to mid-morning perhaps being the better time of day.

Good luck.
