Students swapped out the books for Bunsen burners recently as Bundaberg State High School’s Science Roadshow visited primary schools in the region for National Science Week.
STEM coordinator Kylie Milliken said the event was now in it’s fifth year and provided the high school students an opportunity to engage with their younger peers about all things science.
“Our students presented to eight different schools across the week, engaging the youngsters with the wonders of science!” she said.
“With dry-ice demos and hands-on activities the presentation is a highlight of the year for many of our science students, some of whom have presented since Year 9.
“Our students enjoy being science ambassadors and having the opportunity to pass on their love of science with the younger audiences.”
National Science Week (10 – 18 August) is Australia’s annual opportunity to meet scientists, discuss the hot topics, “do” science and celebrate its cultural and economic impact on society.
First held in 1997, National Science Week has become one of Australia’s largest festivals.
In 2024, events just like Bundaberg State High School‘s Science Roadshow were held online and right throughout the nation.
The festival is proudly supported by the Australian Government; and partners CSIRO, the Australian Science Teachers Association and ABC Science.
