Local ukulele workshops, cultural learning experiences, a feature film and a theatre project are among those to be given a boost after receiving funding through Bundaberg Regional Council.
At this month’s Ordinary Meeting, Round 2 of the Regional Arts Development Fund was discussed with six local projects approved for monetary support.
The program, which is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Bundaberg Regional Council, offers funding for projects that promote artistic development, skill-building, and creative collaborations.
Council approved the release of $62,457 for Round 2 of the 2023-24 program in accordance with the recommendations of the RADF Grants Panel Assessment Committee as follows:
- Dylan Sarra: $6,000 towards creation of two Possum Skin Cloaks for cultural learning experiences and professional development sessions.
- Avi Amesbury: Storytelling: a collaboration with composer MJ Callaghan. $5,257 to support professional development, content production and travel expenses.
- Shirley-Ann Rowley: Bundy Ukefest. $5,000 to support professional ukulele workshops as hosted by the Australian Ukulele Show.
- James Latter: Fascination Street. $24,600 forproduction and travel associated with filming in Bundaberg, employing local production, cast and crews, local film makers, and other talent from the region to produce a debut feature film based for and about Bundaberg.
- Kyle Walmsley: Bundaberg Verbatim Theatre Project 2025. $15,000 towards skills development workshops with established actors mentoring emerging artists and development of series of performances in Bundaberg which activate non-traditional spaces.
- Menaka Thomas: Indian fusion workshops. $6,600 towards facilitation of two workshops with Menaka Thomas and accompanying artists Kelsey Giarola (Singer and Pianist) and Tsoof Baras with the local artists.
The Bundaberg Regional Council’s Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing the local arts scene, providing financial support for a variety of creative projects across the region.
Arts, Culture, and Events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said the program was instrumental in fostering incredible initiatives that grow our local arts.
