Residents decorating for Christmas can add a uniquely Bundaberg decoration to their tree, and show their support for the community, with the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal collectible bauble now available.
This year’s bauble was a collaboration between Bundaberg Regional Council, local artist Carmel Birchley, Sunshine Mitre 10 and Maki Print.
Bundaberg Art Society members were invited to submit a Christmas bauble design to Council, with Carmel’s artwork selected by Mayor Helen Blackburn for the limited edition decoration.
Carmel said she was humbled by the honour of her artwork being used for such a worthy cause.
“I hope the bauble design will encourage generosity of mind and in kind,” Carmel said.
“The Star of Bethlehem is a reminder of the reason for Christmas celebrations.
“Singing to uplift the spirits of both man and our feathered friends carrying the message of Joy and Peace – a message more important now than ever before in our lifetime.”
Mayor Blackburn said the collaboration between the community and Council to create the bauble embodied the spirit of the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.
“The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal is about community supporting community,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“Featuring a local artist’s design on the bauble is a wonderful way of celebrating the region’s creative community while also raising funds for those in need.
“Sunshine Mitre 10 generously donated the plyboard and Maki Print expertly etched the design, creating a wonderful ornament that will certainly be going up on my tree this year!”
Community members can snap up their 2024 Mayor’s Christmas Appeal bauble for $10.
It will be on sale exclusively at Mumma’s Nest Christmas Markets, 29 to 30 November at the Bundaberg Multiplex, and at Bundaberg Regional Council Service Centre in Bourbong Street, Bundaberg.
Childers and Gin Gin residents who would like to purchase a bauble can order them through Childers Neighbourhood Centre or Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre.
All proceeds from the sale of the bauble support the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal, raising funds to provide hampers, gifts and vouchers to local residents in need at Christmas.
