Properties removed from list at meeting

In its Ordinary Meeting on 26 November Council moved to rescind an earlier motion to sell surplus land to allow for the removal of nine properties, including Waterloo Hall.

A number of properties of community interest have been removed from the list of surplus
land sales previously identified by Bundaberg Regional Council.

In its Ordinary Meeting on 26 November Council moved to rescind an earlier motion to sell surplus land to allow for the removal of nine properties including Waterloo Hall and five properties in Clarke Street, Bargara which are no longer intended for sale at this point in
time.

St George Hall, South Kolan, 35 Milden Street, Gin Gin and 18 Takalvan Street, Bundaberg
West have also been removed from the list to allow for further consideration.

Mayor Helen Blackburn said in rescinding the decision in relation to these properties Council had demonstrated its willingness to listen to the community.

“As Councillors we have many difficult decisions brought before us which we respond to with the best interests of the community at heart,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“In this instance the original decision to sell surplus land which saw these properties included on the tender list was based on the necessity to turn Council’s financial position
around, with land and empty buildings costing ratepayers for maintenance and repairs each
year.

“We won’t always get every decision right but we will always remain adaptive and
responsive to our residents.

“I thank every resident who took the time to share their feedback with Council and trust that following the withdrawal of these select properties from the list of surplus land sale by
tender we have now struck the right balance between fiscal responsibility and community needs.”

A total of 16 properties will proceed to sale by tender.

Each property presents unique characteristics in terms of location, size, shape, zoning, and access, and will be sold on an “as is” basis.

Any properties not sold by tender will be listed on Council’s website for sale on the open market.

The tender for the following properties will be available in the coming weeks and any
interested parties should register on Vendor Panel to be notified of the tender’s release.
