Moore Park Beach works forge ahead

MPB Master Plan: Hallstone Construction, Cr Jason Bartels, Mayor Helen Blackburn at the new hub.

Local contractors have been busy with the construction of the Moore Park Beach Masterplan, with the Bundaberg Regional Council project set to provide a vibrant precinct for recreation and connection when it is completed next year.

After significant public consultation, the build began in early 2024 and is set to feature a community annex with three buildings, which will house a community hub, men’s shed and a storage and thrift shop.

Mayor Helen Blackburn said the transformative project would deliver significant benefits for the Moore Park Beach community.

“The Moore Park Beach Masterplan is about enhancing liveability and creating spaces that encourage social interaction, leisure, and active lifestyles,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“These new buildings will provide an important space for community groups and residents to come together, collaborate, and connect.”

Council has engaged local contractors Hallstone Constructions and Pulse Electrical to undertake key components of the works.

“It’s fantastic to see local contractors playing a pivotal role in this project,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“Their expertise is helping us create spaces that will be enjoyed by the community for years to come.”

The masterplan has been supported by funding from the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program, enabling significant upgrades to community spaces and infrastructure.

Key features of the project include a modern new playground, improved footpaths that connect public spaces, and a focus on sustainable water use with recycled water irrigation for the sports field.

Divisional representative Cr Jason Bartels said it was an exciting project that would be welcomed by the community and utilised by all.

“These enhancements are not only visually appealing but also functional, making Moore Park Beach an even more inviting destination for locals and visitors alike,” he said.

“I am very much looking forward to having this functional space available for everyone to enjoy.”

  1. I came from Norah Head on the Central Coast NSW a coastal suburb surrounded by national park as you can imagine buying there was a matter of waiting till someone moved or pass away. Either way I’m not a multimillionaire. We decided to head north to find a special place with natural beauty and balance. Trust me after extensive searching I realised the east coast of Australia has all but been destroyed. Then we discovered Moore Park in 2002, our prayers had been answered. Kangaroos enjoyed the beach as much as we did and the biodiversity astonished us. With a nature strip from the kolan environmental park in the north to 90 year old regrowth forest on bundy sugar land we knew we had found something very unique. I thought for sure local government would designate each end a national park. I guess I got complacent. The nature strip has been eroded by housing developments, unless of course all the animals can swim 8 or so kilometres and the plans for bundy sugar land is disgraceful in this day and age I thought we would know better and leave just one thing completely natural for future generations. What they have done in just one month equals Hiroshima in the natural world.
I understand everyone wants the coastal dream but if we keep going there will be no coast left. Why not build on unused farmland not 7 minutes from here land that has been cleared for decades. I hope our community association with all it’s resources can focus more on the bigger picture than develope develope deveope. After all most people I’ve met here over the last 23 years love living here because it’s not the Gold Coast or Bargara and we all know the main cause of species becoming endangered is loss of habitat.
I am not tech savvy just a simple person but I’d love input on measures we can take to stop this before there’s nothing left.
