Tuesday 25.02.2025: Ladies Day:

Wow, what a day we had today, nipping in after a shower, it looked like we might not get to finish our games but no, the sun came out and the games went on!

What games they were at that, two games in the Ladies Open Singles as well as social triples and pairs!

Ladies Open Singles:

Four of our best Lady Bowlers fighting it out for a place in the semi final, in two great displays of bowls.

Rhonda Byrnes had a win over Marilyn Mullins in a game where the score did not reflect the high standard of bowls from both Ladies!

Thanks to Daphne Brettell for marking the game.

Karen Henderson had a win over Gail Lenz in what can only be described as the fight back of the season.

Gail had Karen on the mat for most of the game, however never one to throw in the towel, Karen fought back with some magnificent bowls to take the match in the dying stages!

Thanks to Gloria Newby for marking and also to Marjo Greiner for standing as Umpire for the day.

Winning rink draw: rink 14:

Would you believe a dead heat 19 all and the same number of ends each, 10!

Judy Stanley and Sylvia Mollison

Donna Smith and Doreen Ensby

Wednesday 26.02.2025: Mens Day:

A lovely day out for our men today, bit of wind to sort the men from the boys, with most handling it well!

Winning rink draw: rink 11: Dennis Smith, Tony Evans and Rob Hannah Runners Up: rink 9: Steven Cole, Clinton Dowling and Bob Winzar.

Consolation: rink 15: Trevor Christensen, Gerry Turner and Maurie Strano

Thursday 27.02.2025: Oyster and Fee’s Day.

Today we had a match between the two top Ladies teams in the final of the Open Ladies Fours Competition.

A large group of spectators were treated to a top class match between Team Fiona and Team Lorelle, resulting in a hard fought win to Team Fiona.

Team Fiona put the first points on the card, however Team Lorelle had an answer to that taking the lead 4/2 on end 3.

A 2 on end 4 to T. F. gave a full house of fours, 4 all on end 4!

T. F. then chipped their way to the front with 2/3’s and a 2 to sit the score on end 8 at 12/5.

However T. F. then fell into a bit of a slump and experienced campaigners T. L. crept up to almost closing the gap, on end 14 the score sat at 14/10 to T.F.

A regroup and refocus by T. F. saw a 5 on end 18 that was the turning point of the match and they went on to win from there.

All bowlers are to be congratulated on their performance in a game played in a hard to read gusting wind.

Fiona Dowling gave a stand out performance for her team, saving multiple numbers with her last skips bowl.

Team Fiona: Lead: Lesley Christensen Second: Jane Herd-Evans , Third: Donna Smith Skip:Fiona Dowling.

Team Lorelle: Lead: Karen Henderson, Second: Daphne Brettell, Third: Robyn Bishop. Skip: Lorelle Mattson.

We also had a game in the Men’s Open Singles resulting in a win to Lyall Brettell over Col Ensby with Ken Geaney as marker.

Special thanks to Rob Anderson who stood as Umpire for the day.

Winning rink draw: rink 9: Competition Game. Lyall Brettell and Ken Geaney (marker).

Consolation: rink 14: Beth Clark-Coolee, Judi Barrett and Wayne Stanley

Saturday 01.02.2025: Self Select Pairs with three games in the Mens Open Singles Competition:

First to finish: rink 9: Trevor Christensen had a win over Rowdy Taylor with Clinton Dowling marking.

Rink 19: John Robinson had a win over Rob West with Wayne Reis marking.

Rink 11: Rob Hannah had a win over Robbie Byrnes with Ian Goodhew marking.

Winning rink draw: rink 13: Robbie Royan and Rob Anderson Thanks to Ian Kirby who stood as Umpire for the day.

Sunday 02.02.2025: Social Paddle Pop Triples:

What a wind we had to contend with today, cyclone Alfred sorted us out big time!

A few scatters of rain didn’t stop us but that wind was a killer, gusting, swirling, generally being a challenge!

Only one winning rink draw today, rink 11: Judy Stanley, Ken Collins and Robbie Byrnes

Welcome back Ken, good to have you with us again even if it is only for a month!

Looking forward to next week we will have the Ladies semi final games:

Fiona Dowling to play Rhonda Byrnes and Karen Henderson to play Donna Smith.

Also men’s semi finals: Trevor Christensen to play John Robinson and Lyall Brettell to play Rob Hannah.

All of the above games will be top class standard well worth a look!
