A continued commitment to community support has been highlighted in Bundaberg Regional Council’s 2025-26 budget through programs which respond to community needs and sponsorship of critical services.

Community Resilience and Connection portfolio spokesperson Cr Tracey McPhee said community capacity building and resilience remained central to the work of Council in the financial year ahead.

“Our community development strategy highlights Council’s focus on strengthening our local communities,” Cr McPhee said.

“Council not only supports this in policy but also in funding through grants and fee waivers for organisations our community depends on.

“For example, this year that includes $50 000 in LifeFlight sponsorship and $50 000 towards the Royal Flying Doctor Service, both of which provide valuable aeromedical services for those needing emergency care.”

This financial year will see the continued support of communities through the neighbourhood centres, with programs like Forgotten Foods to Fabulous Feasts in Childers and Gin Gin.

Cr McPhee said the project was designed to support families to explore healthy eating options on a budget.

“The Forgotten Foods to Fabulous Feasts program will include a range of activities and support including cooking classes, healthy eating budget tips, recipes and community BBQs to showcase the recipes in practice.

“The point of difference with this program is it doesn’t create dependency; it teaches and empowers families and individuals to take control of their lives with practical skills like cooking and shopping on a budget and helps them make every dollar go further.

“I would encourage everyone to contact the Childers or Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre to find out more about this wonderful initiative and how they can benefit from all it offers.”

The Forgotten Foods to Fabulous Feasts program is supported with funding from Neighbourhood Centres Queensland.
