Apia’s Steppin Out walking group has taken to the streets of Bundaberg to provide a fun, free way to become more physically active.

Apia business development manager and Heart Foundation walking co-ordinator Sara Smith is encouraging the community to get on board and join in the fun on Wednesday mornings.

“Come and join the Apia Steppin Out walking group and take the steps towards a happier healthier lifestyle,” Sara said.

“In partnership with the Heart Foundation, Apia run a free local walking group in Bundaberg to provide their customers and local over 50s residents with a fun, free way to become more physically active.”

Sara said the group was also a way to help them build an understanding of the local communities in which Apia operates, so they could provide them better experiences.

“By engaging with our customers and promoting physical wellness, we’re walking the talk,” she said.

“Local residents are invited to come along on Wednesday’s at 8.30am to have a try and find out more about joining the group.”

Focus on over 50s for walking group

Sara said as a brand Apia focused on helping over 50s live their lives by offering solutions to meet their needs as they aged.

“By bringing people together for a walk and a chat we can help keep them mentally and physically healthy and connect with residents to promote overall health and well-being,” she said.

The walking group is aimed at over 50s, but anyone can tag along.

“As Apia is a specialist insurer for over 50s, we are speaking and promoting to our over 50s that we interact with each day,” Sara said.

“Primarily our group was designed for 50 plus, though we won’t turn anyone away if they wished to join.”

The walking group meet at Hinkler Central Shopping Centre on Wednesday mornings.

“There is no need to register prior, just come along for a walk and stay for a chat and complimentary coffee or tea,” Sara said.
