Visitors to Laurisen Park can enjoy more sun-safe fun thanks to the recent installation of shade sails at the fully-fenced playground.
The upgrade is part of Bundaberg Regional Council’s ongoing commitment to creating sun-safe, family-friendly public spaces, with a number of parks and playgrounds scheduled for shade enhancements in 2025.
Located on Scotton Street, Laurisen Park was recently redesigned with the goal of offering a secure and enjoyable space for the community.
Featuring new play equipment and a fully enclosed layout, Environment and Natural Resources portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said the park gave parents peace of mind while their children played.
He said the addition of shade was a valuable improvement for the well-used park.
“Laurisen Park has quickly become a favourite spot for local families, and we’re pleased to make it even more comfortable by providing shade over the playground,” Cr Bartels said.
“We know how important it is to create public spaces that are both fun and safe—particularly in our climate.
“Shade not only helps protect children from UV exposure but also keeps equipment cool and useable throughout the day.”
Cr Bartels said Laurisen Park was just one of several community spaces set to receive upgrades this year.
“The next park in line is Bargara Views Estate, where we’ll be installing shade sails in May,” he said.
“This is part of Council’s wider strategy to enhance outdoor recreation areas and encourage families to make the most of our beautiful region.”
