A significant upgrade of the Isis Memorial Swimming Pool will be under way soon to convert the facility into a heated and covered pool.
Bundaberg Regional Council has partnered with the Federal Government to deliver the significant upgrade.
Mayor Jack Dempsey said residents of the Childers area had made representations to Council over many years to heat the pool.
āNow, thanks to this partnership, those representations from the community will come to fruition,ā Mayor Dempsey said.
āThe pool will incorporate solar power to run its electrical components which will assist with future running expenses and the shade structure will provide an ongoing sun-safe element for users.
āIām delighted to see this new project delivered which will offer a broader community use.ā
Divisional councillor Bill Trevor said the investment provided not only a desirable sport and recreation facility for the community but also a venue that added significantly to the lifestyle of the Childers district.
āMany people rely on the pool for their regular low impact exercise and to now have a facility that can offer an extended swimming season is certainly a great outcome,ā Cr Trevor said.
āWorks will be undertaken during the winter close-down period.ā
- A meeting to update the community will be held in Childers on Wednesday, 27 March at 6.30pm in the Isis Cultural Centre.
