Play equipment will be upgraded at Nielson Park, Bargara.

New play equipment is on the way for the Nielson Park playground in Bargara.

Council’s Parks and Gardens portfolio spokesperson Cr Wayne Honor said the popular “skysurfer” had recently been removed due to wear and tear.

“This has been a highly popular piece of play equipment and has attracted a high level of use over its life – which has no doubt contributed to its current condition,” Cr Honor said.

“Council will replace the skysurfer with a basket swing that provides similar play opportunities rather than undertake costly maintenance and repairs on this aging equipment.

“The basket swing is able to be used by a wide variety of ages and, being a tall swing, will be a lot of fun.”

The basket swing will be placed in a slightly different location which will enhance the availability of open grassed areas for picnics, events and ball games.

Divisional representative Cr Greg Barnes said the new equipment would add to the many play opportunities along the Bargara shoreline.

“Our coastal strip is a magnet for visitors and residents alike,” Cr Barnes said.

“From Mary Kinross Park to Nielson Park and everywhere in between Bargara offers a variety of play and recreational opportunities for the young to the young at heart.”
