Hughes Road extension nears completion

The completion of the Hughes Road extension in Bargara is right on track with only 10% of the project works remaining.

Bundaberg Regional Council's Roads and Drainage portfolio spokesperson Cr Bill Trevor said the finishing touches were currently being made to the area and, once complete, would provide a more direct route between Bargara and southern coastal suburbs.

“The remaining works include some footpaths, line marking and street lighting,” he said.

“Tradesmen have already completed earthworks, drainage, roadworks and landscaping.”

Cr Trevor said late last year the new Hughes and Watsons Roads roundabout opened to traffic, with work then commencing on Stage Four of the project.

He said once completed in March, the $3.5 million works would provide residents with greater connectivity within the coastal communities.

“This project is part of the greater North-South Link project however, in the short term, the Hughes Road extension will prove beneficial to residents,” Cr Trevor said.

“It will reduce traffic on residential streets and provide faster and more direct access to shopping facilities and services.”
