Bundaberg Region musician Matthew Munro is taking the next big leap in his music career after launching his debut single this week.
The “Sold My Soul' single has only been out for a few days but has already made it to number 9 on the iTunes charts.
It's a huge achievement for the 20-year-old artist, who said he had put his heart into creating a song that meant something special to him.
“This song is a look at the things you can think are import in life, like the good-looking girl, moving away from a small town only to discover that the grass isn’t always greener,” he said.
“Sometimes it doesn’t go to plan and you just end up questioning life.”
Matthew said he ‘s had a passion for music ever since he was a child, performing in local plays and taking part in various music events.
“My first musical outing was with the Childers Coral Society as Kurt in the ‘Sound of Music’, followed by the role of Peter Pan in the play ‘Peter Pan Second Star to the Right,” he said.
“I shifted my focus to country music at around 14 years of age, becoming a member of the Bundaberg Country Music Club and competing in talent quests around Queensland.
“On finishing school I have been gigging most weekends as a soloist at many Bundaberg venues as well as playing at local festivals including the Childers Festival, Lighthouse Festival, Small Halls Tour Crush Festival.”
Matthew said performing in front of a crowd was something he would never get tired of.
“I love the connection with the audience, the opportunity to tell stories through songs, and its just a lot of fun,” he said.
“As for my career, I am taking one step at a time but hope one day to play on major stages both in Australia and overseas.”
Matthew Munro will host a special launch party for his Sold My Soul single at Oodies Cafe on Friday, 6 March from 5.30pm.
