Bundaberg-based finance guru Ben Neilson, known as the Rural Money Bloke, has been named in the top 50 most influential financial advisers in Australia.

Director of Neilson & Co Wealth Management, Ben made the prestigious FS Power50 list.

It ranks the 50 most influential financial advisers in the country according to readers of Financial Standard and FS Advice, The Australian Journal of Financial Planning.

Ben said it had been a year of achievements for the Bundaberg wealth management firm, with the business taking out two prestigious awards and in the running for a third.

“When I started as a financial adviser, they didn’t have the best reputation,” he said.

“The way they managed people’s finances was outdated, and the educational requirements for advisers were nowhere as high as they are today, I wanted to change that.

“Given the challenging year everyone has had, to be named in the top 50 is a refreshing confirmation that we are getting things right.

“These awards reflect the client’s willingness to support us and trust our guidance through unprecedented periods like the current pandemic.”

The Rural Money Bloke, Mr Neilson said he preferred to be a no-nonsense voice on a variety of financial planning subjects, sharing his financial wisdom in open and honest social media style.

“I’m proud to say that my business, Neilson & Co Wealth, receives most of its business through referrals from happy customers,” he said.

“Rural communities are close knit and mixing new financial principles with old fashioned customer service has hit the mark with the region’s agricultural families and given us a healthy customer base.”
