Childers Skate Park will soon undergo construction for the installation of multiple shade sails in the area, keeping the popular spot cool and protected once complete.
The park, situated on Lord Street, will be closed from Monday, 15 March to Thursday, 1 April while the shade sails are installed.
Divisional Representative Cr Bill Trevor said the skate park installation would be a welcome addition for residents, with the work part of Council’s Parks and Open Space Strategy in providing sun safe areas for the community to enjoy.
“Our region certainly has a superb climate which is perfect for the enjoyment of an outdoor lifestyle, but with that comes the need for sun protection,” he said.
“Shade is one major aspect of this and we want to ensure sun safe play areas are always an option for residents.”
Shade sail contract awarded to Planet Shade
Cr Trevor said local company Planet Shade was awarded the contract for the installation, with the park to be open to the public again in time for the Easter School Holidays.
“Four shade sails will be installed to cover the various landing points, which will keep those who are watching the action from the top of the ramps protected from the sun,” he said.
“We know just how popular this skate park is so it is fantastic to know the installation process will be complete and the area open to the public again by Friday, 2 April.
“It is fantastic to see these facilities upgraded to provide sun safe spaces for our local kids and families who frequent the area.”
Bundaberg Regional Council has completed a number of shade structures in the past financial year with plans for more shade installation at Kookaburra Park and Alexandra Park in the future.
