Savour art and food this Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day competition
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Bundaberg Regional Galleries is giving you the chance to win an up-close and personal encounter with art while enjoying delicious, local treats.

Those looking for the perfect gift to treat their significant other this Valentine's Day are being encouraged to enter into the Art Date competition.

Hosted by Bundaberg Regional Galleries, the prize features a private gallery brunch date for two with a guided tour of the latest exhibitions by the gallery director,  and some delicious local delicacies all served in the beautiful surrounds of Gallery One.

Bundaberg Regional Council's arts, culture and event portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said the Art Date was about bringing two people together to celebrate food, art and love at the most romantic time of the year.

“This is the perfect date for anyone who wants to treat their partner to something a little bit unique and special for Valentine's Day,” he said.

“The morning will begin with entry into BRAG for a private showing of the three new exhibitions; JamFactory Icon Tom Moore: Abundant Wonder, A grand display – Troy Emery and Form – Sculptural Works from the Bundaberg Regional Galleries Collection.

“You and your date will then enjoy a delicious brunch with local treats provided by Cha Cha Chocolate, The Pocket Storehouse and One Little Farm + Cafe Flowers Produce.”

Gary treats Raelene to special BRAG prize

Art Date 1
Gary and Raelene were last year’s winners of the galleries' Art Date competition for Valentine's Day!

To enter the competition the Bundaberg Regional Galleries team is asking for people to detail why they'd like to win an Art Date and who they would bring along.

It was something last year's winner Gary Martin said he was glad he participated in for his partner Raelene.

“I thought at the very least I could pen a few heartfelt words which never go astray and wow, what if we actually won?” he said.

“Truth be known, I didn’t rewrite it 10 times to make it sound all gooey and stuff and make me look good, I just wrote from the heart as if I was only talking to her.

“Then wow, so many lovely replies, hearts, likes and then a kiss and a hug from Raelene when she saw it.”

Upon finding out he had won the date, Gary said he and Raelene were over the moon and enjoyed a lovely day out surrounded by beautiful art, good food and great company.

“I told Raelene and it was more kisses and hugs and disbelief…at this point I am convinced I am a rockstar!” he said.

“But any partner can be, you just need to tell them how you feel, don’t assume that they know, they love to hear it.”

How to enter to win an Art Date

Cr Learmonth said the Art Date prize was open to everyone.

“Whether you want to treat yourself and your significant other or you know a couple who deserve a delightful day out then don't hesitate to enter the competition,” he said.

“Art, food and great company is a recipe for a successful Valentine's Day.”

To enter, head to the Bundaberg Regional Galleries Facebook page here and comment why you’d like to win an Art Date and who you'd bring along.

The competition closes 11am, Wednesday 9 February.

The winner will be notified via Facebook.
