The Bundaberg Region is well known for its large turtle population and visitors and locals alike can help these species thrive by following a few simple tips.

This advice has been compiled as part of Bundaberg Regional Council's turtle awareness campaign, which aims to educate people on the impacts of lighting on local marine life.

After 7.30pm between October and April help reduce the glow affecting our beaches by:

  • Switching off unnecessary lights
  • Closing curtains or blinds
  • When driving, avoiding using high beam near beaches where possible
  • Only using a small torch on the beach at night
