Do you have what it takes to take on the hottest chilli in the world at this month’s Childers Festival?
The Childers Festival Chilli Wing Eating Competition will be held during Festival Day on Sunday 31 July, with entrants taking to the Paverock Quarry stage to test their tastebuds.
The Carolina Reaper Chilli is officially the hottest chilli in the world, with Childers Fine Foods specialising in the farming and production in Childers.
The competition will comprise of two rounds, amateur and professional, with pre-registration vital for the event as registrations will not be able to be completed on the day.
Competitors are set with the challenge of eating 10 chicken wings in 10 minutes.
Amateurs are provided with wings smothered in ‘Kiss the Reaper’ chilli sauce (10/10 on the heat spectrum), while professionals will receive five covered in sauce and five coated with Carolina Reaper chilli powder, for a more refined experience.
There will be cash prizes for first, second and third place Childers Festival chilli wing eating competition winners as well as hampers.
Childers Fine Foods Owners Mark and Nat Albert said as the heat would be on, they encouraged people to practice ahead of the competition.
“We would say practice eating chilli, get yourself started off low and ramp your way up slowly,” the duo said.
“The amateur level will be very short and sharp, not so hot, but it will still be challenging and then the professional side will see a variety in the way the wings are cooked, along with a few surprises at the end.
“We are going to have a chilli candy and a shot glass of sauce to finish it off and wash it down so to speak.”
