Local producers and businesses are being called upon to showcase their goods at the annual Taste Festival Farmers Market, to be held at the Bundaberg Recreational Precinct in August.
The Bundaberg Regional Council event brings together the community to sample and savour a range of locally-grown produce and locally-owned product in the one space.
Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers Chief Executive Officer Bree Grima said the organisation had been involved in the market previously which had been a fantastic experience.
“Whilst roadside stalls and grocers stock local produce year round the annual farmers market is a chance for community members to meet the farmers themselves and for the farmers to meet their customers face to face,” Bree said.
“BFVG has been involved with the markets for several years and it’s evident from the number of community members attending that people want to learn more about where their food comes from whilst having the opportunity to pick up beautiful fresh produce.
“The farmers that attend say they love the connections that are made with the community and I’ve always said, if you want to know the best way to cook the produce, then ask the farmer growing it.”
Bree said the Taste Farmers Market also involved plenty of perks for those attending and holding a stall.
“The celebrity chef on-site cooking shows are always a favourite as is the mystery box challenge which includes various products available at the markets,” she said.
“We recognise the effort involved by farmers to attend the markets but really encourage everyone to get behind the event, the community wants to meet the farmers in our region and it’s a great opportunity for them to showcase their products.”
Arts, Culture and Events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said the event was about giving local growers and businesses a chance to showcase to a local audience.
“Fruit and vegetables fresh from the fields sit alongside meats straight from the paddock and the ocean, showcasing the diversity of delights available right across the region,” he said.
“It’s a wonderful event to be part of and a great opportunity for our local producers to showcase what they have to offer.”
Stallholder applications are now open and can be submitted here.
The Taste Farmers Market is part of the ten-day Taste Bundaberg Festival program which will run from 4 to 13 August 2023.
