Friends and families enjoying the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens can look forward to a new boardwalk this year as renewal work continues.

From Monday, 24 April community members will notice the remaining section of the boardwalk will start to be removed.

These works are a continuation of the boardwalk renewal project which commenced in October 2022 when the first section of the boardwalk was removed.

The works will see the remainder of the boardwalk removed, and it is estimated the removal will take about a week.

Bundaberg Regional Council’s Gardens team will fence off the area to ensure the safety of community members.

The existing timber boardwalk is being removed and replaced due to reaching its end of life.

The new and improved boardwalk structure will be made from a plastic composite including recycled plastic materials providing an eco-friendly alternative to timber.

The plastics, sourced from Australian waste, include materials such as soft plastics, car bumpers and factory scraps.

The new boardwalk will also feature a timber look while having the added benefits of being more durable, reducing maintenance requirements.

The project is part of Bundaberg Regional Council’s Parks, Sport and Natural Areas Capital Renewal Program 2022 – 2023.
