Works provide safety boost for Hummock Road

Hummock Road safety works are currently underway and will reduce the likelihood of head-on and run-off road crashes by improving the road geometry, skid resistance and delineation.

Safety improvements are well underway along Hummock Road, with work being undertaken by Bundaberg Regional Council to achieve a consistent sealed road standard between Zinks Road and Three Chain Road.

Roads and Drainage Portfolio Spokesperson Cr Bill Trevor said the project was identified through Council’s Road Investment Strategy which considered criteria such as traffic volumes, heavy vehicles, crash history and primary production areas.

“This project involves widening a narrow-sealed section of road and sealing an unsealed section of road,” he said.

“The work will provide a sealed road connection from the recently upgraded section of Three Chain Road and to Elliott Heads Road, improving both safety and network connectivity.”

Cr Trevor said the project would reduce the likelihood of head-on and run-off road crashes by improving the road geometry, skid resistance and delineation.

“The project will also create a more forgiving roadside environment by removing several roadside hazards,” he said.

“It will also mitigate some of the environmental issues associated with unsealed roads, which include dust generation.”

The project commenced in February 2023 and is due for completion in June 2023, weather permitting.

The project is partly funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCIP).

  1. I am sure that anyone who lives on this section of hummock road will be happy, but what about the small unsealed section of 3 chain road? Makes using this road almost unusable some of the time. Especially when towing a caravan. Could you please explain why this section was left unsealed, when either side are sealed?

  2. what i wanna know is they keep on ripping up sections of road around town that looks fine and laying new bitumen yet they fail to fix areas that need fixing say for example the intersection of princess st and scotland street that intersection is so damaged and bumpy it aint funny anymore yet everything near it is getting fixed…. i think the council really need to appoint people that know where stuff needs fixing as these fools know nothing and i challenge them that i could get all bad areas sorted out.
