Across The Waves will be banking on massive home-town support when they host Cairns heavyweights Edge Hill United Tigers in the Football Australia Cup Round 6 at 5 pm tomorrow.
Waves booked their place in this round with a 2-1 victory over another powerhouse Mackay Lions at Martens Oval three weeks ago, and they are unbeaten this season, although they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with United Park Eagles (UPE) in the Football Queensland Premier League Wide Bay Men’s division last Saturday when they were without a number of their stars.
Waves went down to the Tigers 4-2 in the FQPL Champions League semi-finals in Brisbane last September after scoring the first two goals of the match but scores had been locked at 2-apiece at the break.
Waves are now just two wins away from the National Round of 32 and the whole club is excited, while knowing the magnitude of the task at hand.

In other WBPL Men’s matches last week, Irish ace Gary O’Donnell was a match winner for Bingera as they edged out KSS Jets 3-2, while the winless SC Corinthians were brave in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Doon Villa.
UPE pipped Waves 2-1 in their Women’s showdown, while Bingera had to settle for a 2-2 draw with the Jets.
WBPL matches continue on this weekend, with in the PL Men, Bingera hosting Sunbury Blues at 5pm tomorrow, and UPE taking on Corinthians at Martens Oval at 4pm Sunday.
Bingera will also host Tinana in a Women’s clash at 7pm after the Men’s game.
RUGBY LEAGUE
After four losses in a row, Wests Panthers are now very much on a roll following a hat-trick of victories, but they must win again in their Bundaberg Broadcasters A Grade Premiership showdown with Easts Magpies at Salter Oval at 6pm tomorrow to bolster their top three hopes and a double-chance in the finals.
Past Brothers moved to 15 points with their 30-18 triumph over Easts last week, while Waves Tigers climbed into second position on 12 points after defeating Hervey Bay Seagulls 38-8, the Magpies remained on 11 points, slipping one spot to third, and Wests are now just one point behind them after powering home 36-10 against Wallaroos, who stayed on six points, with the Seagulls yet to open their account.
Teenage second rower Zander Kerr notched a double for the Panthers last Saturday.
Brothers can take a giant step towards the minor premiership if they can down Waves at 4.15pm, while after three straight losses, Roos should return to the winners’ list when they host Hervey Bay at Eskdale Park at 5pm.
In the Northern District Men’s Premiership, hosts Avondale Tigers consolidated second place on the ladder with six individual try scorers in a hard-fought 30-16 victory over Gin Gin Hawks on Sunday, while South Kolan Sharks kept Miriam Vale Magpies win-less, overpowering them with doubles to centre Pita Rogosau and five-eighth Suluo Rokovuki.
In the Women’s League Tag, Gin Gin Hawkettes returned to their devastating best with Jessica Galea cutting loose with four tries in a 46-0 white-wash of Avondale Tigress, while Agnes Water Marlins pipped Isis Devils 10-8.
Gin Gin will host Round 10 tomorrow, with two League Tag matches to start the program, with Tigress v Marlins at 3pm, before Hawkettes take flight against Devils at 4pm.
Then in Men’s blockbusters, Tigers and Sharks are set for battle at 5pm, before Hawks face the might of the Devils at 6.30pm.
AFL
Former club junior product Jake Goldsmith, who has made welcome return to Brothers Bulldogs in recent weeks after years in the AFLQ, kicked three goals as they outgunned hosts Bay Power 13.4 (82) to 8.8 (56) in their AFL Wide Bay Senior Men’s Premiership clash on Saturday.
But the Power were too strong for the Dogs in the Takalvans Senior Women’s Premiership, romping home 6.8 (44) to 2.2 (14).
All of tomorrow’s Senior matches are in Bundaberg with Bulldogs hosting Bombers with the Women at 1pm and Men at 2.30pm, and Eagles hosting Power at Frank Coulthard Oval with the Women at 2pm and Men at 3.30pm.
BASKETBALL
After having last weekend off, Bundaberg has home games in the Basketball Queensland State League 2 at Autobarn Arena this Sunday, taking on RedCity Roar, with the Bears Women to take to the court at 11am, and Autobarn Bulls Men at 1pm.
The Bulls are second on the Men’s ladder with Roar in seventh and last position, while the Bears are fourth, two positions higher than Roar.
HOCKEY
Queensland junior representative star Isaac Wales was a match winner, bagging four goals to spearhead All Blacks to a 6-3 triumph over Raiders/Rovers in their Bundaberg Division 1 Men’s duel at Hinkler Park on Saturday, while Waves Cities shot down Arrows/Athletics 5-2.
In Division 1 Women, Arrows and Cities battled out a 1-all draw, while All Blacks upset Raiders/Rovers 1-0.
Tomorrow, Arrows aim up against All Blacks, with the Women and 3.20pm, and Men at 4.40pm, while Cities and Raiders/Rovers cross sticks with the Women at 6pm and Men at 7.20pm.
NETBALL
Three times defending champions Waves Gold swamped Alloway Blue 76-33 in their Warren Family Homes Division 1 Premiership encounter at the Superpark on Saturday, while second placed Brothers Hurricanes struck against Waves Blue 49-29.
Round six was split with Divisions 2, 3, 4, 5. 8 and 10 played this Wednesday and Divisions 1, 6, 7, 9, Ladies, and Masters played next Wednesday.
