Have your say on Nielson Park Masterplan

Neilson Park Masterplan
Council has identified the need to develop a masterplan for Nielson Park to ensure its future development aligns with the community’s needs and aspirations.

Residents are encouraged to have a say on an exciting masterplan for Nielson Park that aims to better facilitate and reinvigorate the popular area.

The Bargara location is a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike and has long been a hub for recreational activities and social gatherings.

Recognising its significance, Council has identified the need to develop a masterplan for Nielson Park to ensure its future development aligns with the community’s needs and aspirations.

The masterplan will guide future developments within the park, ensuring they are undertaken in a deliberate and structured manner to cater to the community’s evolving requirements.

Bundaberg Region Mayor Jack Dempsey said over the years Council had actively sought feedback from the community to shape the vision for a modern, inclusive, and functional area at Nielson Park.

“Engagement with community groups, families, and individuals helped Council gain valuable insights and perspectives,” he said.

“Now, we are excited to share a draft concept masterplan for Nielson Park.

“This plan reflects the collective input received from the community and presents a vision for the park’s future.”

Nielson Park masterplan needs feedback

Mayor Dempsey emphasised the importance of community participation in this process.

“We value the opinions and ideas of our community members,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for everyone to have a say and further contribute to a cherished community space.”

To actively engage with the draft concept masterplan and provide feedback, residents are encouraged to participate in an online survey, available here.

“Your insights will help us in the creation of a vibrant and functional park that will continue to be a treasured asset for generations to come,” Mayor Dempsey said.

The survey is open on the Our Bundaberg Region website until Friday 16 July.

The Nielson Park masterplan has been undertaken under Bundaberg Regional Council’s Parks and Open Space Strategy 2019 – 2026.

  1. How is the work on Washpool Creek going? Any closer to Stage 1 being finalised?

  2. In regard to Bargara beach front upgrade. Will there be shade cover for the toddler playground area & drinking water throughout walking areas of beach ? Will the toilets and change rooms upgrades be serviced more regularly , with soap, toilet paper & be properly cleaned ? Garden areas weed free & neat & tidy with well maintained lawn areas ?Bins cleaned and not overflowing & smelling ? I would like someone making sure that those incharge of those duties are doing their job or simply replace them with contract workers that take pride & guarantee their work. And I’m sure contacted work would be more economical. Embarrassing taking visitors to dirty toilets at the beach with no toilet paper and rubbish on the ground because bins are full .All of our beach front areas need an upgrade in care if we want return visitors . Tourists will by word of mouth bring more visitors if this work is carried out with pride & we will gain more $$ to the Bundaberg / Bargara & surrounding community . ????????????????????????????????‍♂️????‍♀️????‍♂️????????????????????????????????????????

  3. Where is the mention in this article that Nielson Park is reserve land with Council as trustee and it currently operates under a Land Management plan since 1998. This has ensured that this Park has been retained for tcommunity use and not for commercial use or private development.

  4. A good Restautant is really needed. Most Surf Club has a Restaurant overlooking the Beach.

  5. We need somewhere to have a meal and a beer overlooking the water. It’s something that a lot of other beach towns have got and would be a really big drawcard for Bargara. We went on a holiday to Rainbow Beach last year and the surf club there is an amazing place to sit with friends and look out over the water. We need something like that

  6. Just another dream like everything else that is decided on by Council. When is this region going to give substantial tourist dining with view areas over our wonderful natural areas, hopefully before I die. Seal all the roads from side to side would be a start. Where I live has trucks, buses, etc all speeding through every day and causing dust after dust to enter the homes.

  7. An upgrade to the surf club to cater for the growing population is well needed. New restaurants and bigger cafe is well in demand.

  8. Please can the council not forget Moore Park beach. Especially the kids playgrounds which are dirty and old.
