After a decade-long hiatus, the Playhouse Theatre is thrilled to announce the revival of the beloved theatre restaurant experience with Rome Sweet Rome.
Directed by Christopher and Belinda Arnold Rome Sweet Rome is set to bring the dining experience back with a riotous romp.
The talented duo said the theatre restaurant traditions will be very much alive.
“Theatre restaurants are known for their topical, political, and bawdy themes, and Rome Sweet Rome will be no exception,” Chris said.
“Brace yourselves for a captivating journey to ancient Rome, a world ruled by the childish Emperor Nero and brimming with dashing gladiators, alluring temple maidens, and enigmatic soothsayers”.
The storyline unfolds as these gladiators vie for the affections of both the innocent Temple Maidens hailing from the island of Venus and the formidable Amazonian warrior women from Boadicea's camp.
Add some comical gladiators, spirited temple maidens, and the eccentric Dr Twitch into the mix, and you have a recipe for an incredibly entertaining storyline that will leave you in stitches.
Belinda declared that, as always, music will be a big part of the fun.
“Of course, no theatrical extravaganza at the Playhouse would be complete without a medley of sensational musical numbers spanning various eras and styles,” Belinda said.
“Each performance will be accompanied by exceptional choreography courtesy of a stellar lineup of choreographers: Dani McLachlan, Alana Bender, Caitlin Gilfoyle, and Robyn Kent.
“Prepare to laugh until your sides ache and dance until you can't resist the rhythm any longer!”
A theatre restaurant isn’t possible without food, and guests will be in for a real treat with Oodies preparing delectable three-course platter-style finger food, included in the ticketed price, complemented by a fully licensed bar for the individual purchase of drinks.
“And remember, all togas must adhere to appropriate length guidelines, ensuring an authentic ancient Roman atmosphere,” Chris said.
Mark your calendars for the three exciting weekends from 11 to 26 August.
Tickets for this long-awaited event go on sale at 10 am Sunday, 2 July, exclusively at the Playhouse Theatre box office.
