Avocado growers from around the nation will converge on to Bundaberg in August for Avocados Australia’s Central Qld Avocado Export Regional Forum.

The free event will provide relevant export information to growers/exporters including how to prepare for exporting Hass avocados to India.

It comes as the industry experiences a boon in the 2022-23 financial year, with growers exporting 10,736 tonnes of fresh avocados to overseas markets.

Avocados Australia is working on increasing that figure year-on-year.

In order to achieve this, they are delivering a range of initiatives aimed at increasing the industry’s exporting capabilities.

One of these initiatives is the Export Regional Forum Series that is rolling out events across Australia in major avocado growing regions.

They have been playing a pivotal role in helping Avocados Australia engage directly with the key players involved with exporting avocados and interested industry members are encouraged to attend.

Avocados Australia’s CEO John Tyas encouraged Central Queensland growers, packers and exporters to work together to further build the Australian avocado export sector.

“In addition to the current export markets, all Australian avocado growers will, very soon, be able to access the Indian market so they will have more options for selling their fruit, they don’t need to rely on the domestic market alone,” he said.

The Australian avocado crop forecast estimates that Australia’s production will reach 170,000 tonne by 2026.

With markets like India becoming open to Australia’s Hass avocado growers, some of this supply will be able to be channelled to overseas markets.

The CQ Avocado Export Regional Forum is an initiative of the “Avocado market access and trade development” project that has been funded by Hort Innovation, using the avocado research and development levy and contributions from the Australian Government.

Hort Innovation is the grower-owned, not-for-profit research and development corporation for Australian horticulture.

Avocados Australia’s Central Qld Avocado Export Regional Forum will be held on Friday 18 August at the Brothers Sports Club, 130 Takalvan Street, and all avocado growers, exporters and packers are invited to attend.

The CQ Avocado Export Regional Forum will start at 9 am and finish at 1 pm.
