Best-selling author Fleur McDonald will be introducing her latest novel Voices in the Dark to Bundaberg readers at an upcoming author talk at the Bundaberg Library.

Fleur’s rural suspense novels have sold over 800,00 copies across print and eBook publications, including Red Dust, Blue Skies and Purple Roads.

Her latest novel Voices in the Dark tells the story of Sassi Stapleton who makes the long drive home to help her grandfather, when her grandmother falls ill.

Less than an hour away from Sassi's hometown, she swerves to miss a kangaroo and her car rolls down an embankment.

By the time Sassi is found, her grandmother has already passed away.

This leads to the return of Sassi's estranged mother, Amber and tensions escalate as Amber's secrecy and odd behaviour become unsettling.

Fleur McDonald

Growing up in a small town in South Australia, Fleur worked as a jillaroo before spending 20 years farming 8,000 acres.

Currently she lives in Esperance with her two children and an energetic kelpie.

Drawing inspiration from her own experiences in rural Australia, Fleur writes about strong women overcoming adversity.

Fleur said the author talk audience could expect lots of laughs and insights into the publishing work.

“I love answering questions that people have, so there’s always time for readers’ questions,” she said.

“Voices in the Dark is the first book where we have moved away from the beautiful face on the cover to a bit more mystery and drama to represent the storyline more.”

Fleur is spending the week travelling the Queensland coast and said she had only briefly visited Bundaberg before.

“I’ve never stayed in Bundaberg, only with friends on a station outside of town, so I’m looking forward to having a look around,” she said.

  1. I have read many of Fleur McDonald’s books and love her stories.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to travel to the library due to major surgery but would love her latest book signed.
