Bundaberg Region residents will have the opportunity to clean up around their homes with free tip days in February.

The free tip days will be an ideal time for residents to remove objects and backyard clutter around the house that could pose a danger during future storm seasons.

Bundaberg Region Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group Chair Jack Dempsey said the free tip days were the perfect time to ensure backyards and homes were clutter free.

“It serves as an ideal time to dispose of household and backyard clutter around the home that could pose a danger during storm season,” Mayor Dempsey said.

“These days are in addition to the two free annual waste vouchers received by rate payers and the region’s free domestic green waste disposal now available at Green Solutions Wide Bay and Council Waste Facilities all year round.”

Waste and Recycling portfolio spokesperson Cr Tanya McLoughlin said the free tip days included all Council waste and recycling facilities and transfer stations across the region during standard operating hours.

“Residents are reminded that while the free tip days extend to most domestic waste, they did not include material such as tyres, mattresses, dead animals, asbestos and commercial or industrial waste,” she said.

“Load limits do apply with vehicles, therefore vehicles 4.0 tonnes GVM or greater are excluded from the tip free days. A maximum load limit of 500kgs also applies.

“To extend the life of our waste facilities we ask residents to sort recyclable material into relevant categories such as green waste, timber, steel, batteries, fridges, chemicals (less than 5L containers), cardboard, electronic waste and clean concrete etc for drop off at clearly identified locations before disposing of the remainder of their general waste.”

Cr McLoughin said there would be an increased number of vehicles taking advantage of the free tip days during February and to help reduce the wait times Council’s recycled goods shops would be closed during this time.

“It’s important all residents visiting Council’s waste facilities properly secure their loads, wear enclosed footwear and follow all signage and directions provided by staff,” she said.

“Due to the extra traffic over the weekends delays are anticipated and Council will be closing all recycled good shops.”

The free tip arrangements extended to all Council’s waste and recycling facilities and transfer stations across the region at the standard operating hours.

Free disposal applies to most domestic waste but does not include materials such as tyres, solar panels, mattresses, dead animals, asbestos and commercial or industrial waste.

  1. This is the only place I’ve lived where there are not regular days during the year when you can leave your rubbish outside and the council pick it up. There are usually people going around looking through what you put out and recycling it as well.
