Dog owners are being reminded that registration renewals will be reaching mailboxes soon, with the annual fee assisting in the delivery of animal management services across the region.
The animal registration period for dogs is 1 September to 31 August, with annual renewal paperwork provided to pet owners in July.
Animal Management portfolio spokesperson Cr Carmen McEneany said dog registration was compulsory for all dogs within the Bundaberg Region from 12 weeks of age.
“In 2008 the Queensland Government introduced statewide legislation to promote responsible pet ownership and provide safety and security for dogs and the community,” Cr McEneany said.
“Dog registration is a great way to ensure your dog can be identified and reunited with your family should it leave your property.
“Microchipping is also compulsory and provides the best chance for your pet to be safely returned home.”
Cr McEneany said dog registration fees provided valuable animal management services to the community such as reuniting lost pets with families and the provision of off-leash areas across our region.
“Council’s animal management facility provides shelter and care for lost animals with the team also managing dog-related complaints and investigations,” she said.
“Our seven dedicated enclosed off-leash parks are wonderfully maintained alongside the additional off-leash areas available to exercise dogs.
“Council also provides drinking water stations and bags to clean up after your dog in many parks and dog friendly areas in the region.”
