Twenty-five Bundaberg Region projects across 11 programs, including the Anzac Park redevelopment, have received almost $20 million in funding support in the latest Works for Queensland round.
The Queensland Government grant program provides funding to regional Queensland councils to deliver infrastructure, planning, maintenance and capability development projects which support essential services or contribute to community economic development or council sustainability.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said Bundaberg Regional Council had received $19,540,000 in the 2024 – 2027 round of the funding.
“Local Governments are responsible for delivering the vast majority of community infrastructure and these types of programs provide vital assistance in its delivery with a boost to Council finances,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“Many local projects have benefited from this program over recent years and in this round the investment from the state was increased, meaning an additional $6.5 million for the Bundaberg Region.
“Any funding we receive from other levels of government reduces the burden to deliver essential projects on ratepayers.”
She said a range of important initiatives now had funding certainty, the benefits of which would be felt right across the region.
“The program has expanded to include planning and capability projects which provides much-needed relief for our operational expenditure and allows us to continue to invest in strategic planning.”
Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said “wherever they live, Queenslanders deserve access to the well-funded, well-planned services and infrastructure that will let their communities grow and thrive.
“Partnering with Local Government is one of the ways the Queensland Government is helping deliver for regional communities like Bundaberg.”
Programs funded under the 2024 – 2027 Works for Queensland program include:
- Anzac Park redevelopment
- Wallaville Park upgrade
- New shade structure program

Where is the Nelson Park upgrade long overdue.
