The “missing link” in a pathway that connects North Bundaberg to the CBD is under construction.
Division four councillor Helen Blackburn said the project would also provide a safer route for school children, connecting existing pathways between the school and residential areas.
“An additional 500m of pathway will be added to the network as part of this upgrade on Queen St,” she said.
“This will connect to existing pathways around the two nearby schools and provide a defined path through parklands close to the Northway Plaza shopping complex.
“This will mean pedestrians have a much safer route through Federation Park rather than walking beside what is a very busy road.”
Cr Blackburn, who is also Council’s Sport and Recreation portfolio spokesperson, said Council took a strategic approach to pathway upgrades.
“Safety, connectivity to essential services and opportunities to increase physical activity are key factors when we plan pathway upgrade priorities.”
