The fireworks in Bundaberg on New Year’s Eve last year. This year’s event has been cancelled due to fire restrictions.

Due to current fire restrictions, Bundaberg Regional Council today decided to cancel the New Year’s Eve fireworks event in Bundaberg.

Council’s community and cultural services portfolio spokesperson, Cr Judy Peters, said it was a necessary decision.

“We are very mindful of the current fire restrictions and the fact that there are privately run New Year’s Eve celebrations for our region’s residents to attend,” Cr Peters said.

“There are celebrations at Bargara and Gin Gin that are always popular.

“In addition, lots of businesses around our region are holding New Year’s Eve celebrations that we hope residents will attend.

“Our main concern is that people celebrate New Year’s Eve responsibly with family and friends.”

  1. Hi Judy,
What plans if any are there to do with the funds that would have been spent on fireworks.
Is there any plans to donate the funds to farmers or some other worthy people who are struggling

  2. I think all fireworks at events should be banned in the BRC area, including Gin Gin and Bargara and BRC should enforce this. Have an awesome laser show instead for the same price.

  3. I don’t understand how fireworks can go ahead at Gin Gin when it is drier than Bundaberg and is surrounded by farm land that is tinder dry. Is the council going to cover costs of any fires that result from the fireworks display?
