With hundreds of rave reviews, it’s little wonder that Mollydookers Cafe and Bar has earned itself a Trip Advisor Travellers Choice award for 2020, placing them in the top 10 per cent of restaurants worldwide.
Owner Alana Vandenbrink said the award was a surprise for the small family-owned cafe – and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
“This year has been one of the hardest in our business, from dealing with closures and trying to look after our staff, to getting back on our feet again and ensuring that we are exceeding COVID requirements so customers can feel comfortable at Mollys,” Alana said.
“This award, and knowing customers are leaving a review because they enjoyed visiting us makes the rollercoaster of 2020 worth it.”
Alana and her Canadian husband Mike worked for almost a decade in the Canadian hospitality industry, and wanted to bring some of the Canuck charm to Aussies.
“The Canadian hospitality industry is quite different to the Australian industry. It is certainly more about a customer experience, than just service, and that is what we have always focused on here,” Alana said.
“We treat our customers the way we would want to be treated if we were dining out – good service, chats, laughs, great food and atmosphere. When our customers leave, we hope they have had a good time, not just a nice meal.”
And while the cafe’s focus may be on the customer experience, the food is what dominates the reviews.
“We take what we love about Aussie food and blend it with what we love about Canadian food, using amazing Canadian spices and flavours,” she said.
“You will find all the Canadian favourites such as authentic Poutine and Caesars, Xango and more.”
The Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Award is given yearly after the company combs through reviews, ratings and saves and uses that information to award the very best.
Mollydookers is on the Bruce Highway at Apple Tree Creek, just north of Childers.
They are open Wednesday to Sunday. Check their Facebook page for opening hours.
