Celebrating 45 years of Grease the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre is hosting a special sing-along screening.

Celebrating 45 years of the singing and dancing world of Grease, the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre is hosting a special sing-along screening of the legendary musical.

First screening in 1978, Grease is just as popular today with its infectious hit songs: Grease, Summer Lovin’, Hopelessly Devoted to You, Grease Lightning, Sandy, and You’re the One That I Want.

Local fans will have the chance to belt out all of these favourites in the special 45th anniversary screening on 11 November.

The Grease screenplay was based on the original 1971 Chicago musical stage play, which was later adapted and tamed down from the original raunchy version, took up residence on Broadway in 1972.

Set in the late ’50s Grease’s story centres around Danny, a leather-clad T-Bird played by John Travolta, and the wholesome Australian exchange student Sandy, played by Olivia Newton-John.

Council’s Arts, Culture and Events portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said the Grease 45th Anniversary event would be an evening of audience interaction in celebration of the much-loved musical.

“The audience will be able sing along to the well-known soundtrack,” Cr Learmonth said.

“Even those who don’t know the words will enjoy the night as they can follow the bouncing ball tracking of the iconic lyrics on the big screen.

“I encourage people to slick their hair back like Danny and put on their leather jacket, as dressing up in character is also strongly encouraged with prizes up for grabs.

“I’m sure we will see some amazing Dannys and Sandys, with T-Birds and Pink Ladies in costume for the night!

“There’s will be no better way to experience Grease on the big screen, then being immersed in the atmosphere of Moncrieff’s special screening celebrating the film’s 45 years.”
