After a decade in retail Bundaberg’s Jackie Achilles is turning a passion for fitness into a potential new career with help from CQUniversity.
Jackie is determined to change her path and having recently completed a Certificate III in Fitness she will continue her studies as she has enrolled in Certificate IV in Fitness for next year.
“I’m currently working in retail and have done so for the past 10 years, so a change of scenery will be nice,” she said.
“I’d love to become a personal trainer, and further my scope to a sports nutrition field along the track.
“I have previously competed in body building competitions and love the journey of training and eating to change body composition.
“I’d love to be able to offer coaching for competitors. So, I have a few goals in mind for the future.”
Being a mother Jackie said the flexibility and affordability of CQU’s training meant her dream was achievable.
“CQU offers mixed mode options for study, making it easy to complete the course without affecting work,” she said.
“ I was able to complete my practical weekends at the local campus, which was an amazing option, not having to travel, take time off work or find care for my kids was so helpful.
“Considering the amount of support and training received I was very happy with the cost.”
Jackie said she was going to try and obtain a small position to gain experience, while she continues her studies and current retail role, but she was totally focused on her end goal.
“Working in the fitness industry is a very rewarding and fulfilling career, learning about how to help and encourage others to live a healthier, happy life,” Jackie said.
“See people achieving their goals with your help is the best feeling.”
