Competition:

The draws for the Championship Singles and Championship Pairs have been completed and are now on the competition boards. Members are asked to check the draw and to start arranging games by mutual agreement where possible.

The Nominations for all B Grade events and the A & B Pairs have been extended for two weeks. More teams are required, especially in the B Grade Fours. Please consider putting a team together and nominating.

Wide Bay Bowls Classic:

Division 1 teams have been selected for Round 1 which is to be played on Saturday 3rd February Vs Urangan at Burnett. Teams are posted on the Club Noticeboard.

Social Bowls Events:

Visitors are most welcome on all playing days. Entry sheets are at the club or phone the Club on 41514217 during opening hours. If you cannot get through to the club number regarding bowls, then phone 0405373754.

Tuesday 30 January: Open Pairs – Men’s, Ladies, Mixed. Names in by 12 pm, green fees paid by 12.45 pm for a 1 pm start.

Wednesday 31 January: ‘Scroungers’ Singles – this is a fun game of Singles similar to consistency singles where points are allocated to the 4 closest bowls to the jack. Games are played over 12 ends with no driving allowed. Names in by 6.15 pm with games starting at 6.30 pm. Green fees are $10 with 50 percent of the green fees being returned as prize money. All ability levels are welcome so come along for a fun night out.

Thursday 1 February: ‘Social Thursday’ Open Pairs (Men’s, Ladies, Mixed). Names in by 2.15pm as games will commence at 2.30 pm. Play till 4.30 pm with 2 random lucky draws as prizes.

Thursday 1 February: Night Bowls – bowls start at 6.30 pm, names in by 6pm. Bowl under lights and enjoy a fun filled night with a chance at the ‘Pick the Joker’ Jackpot which will be $147+ this week. Visitors and those that want to try bowls for the first time will be made to feel very welcome.

Friday 2 February: Open Pairs – Men’s, Ladies, Mixed. Names in by 12 pm, green fees paid by 12.45 pm for a 1 pm start. The Friday Jackpot stands at $100.

Saturday 3 February: Open Pairs (Men’s, Ladies, Mixed) Names in by 12 pm, green fees paid by 12.45 pm for a 1 pm start.

Club News:

Club opening hours are – Monday (Club closed), Tuesday 10am – 5.30pm, Wednesday 11am – 9pm, Thursday 2pm – 9pm, Friday 10am – 9pm, Saturday 10am – 9pm (10pm for Functions) Sunday Bowls Days 9am – 2pm.

The Goose Club raffle will be drawn on Friday night 2 February at 7 pm – Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased during the week from the Bar staff or on Friday night. There are 15 great prizes to be won – you need to be in it to win it! Proceeds from the raffle help to support your Club.

The next Member’s Draw on Friday night 2 February stands at $690, so come along, have a meal and a few drinks with the chance to win some great cash and prizes.

There will be live entertainment on Friday night 2 February presented by ‘The Other Bloke’ and the following Friday (9 February) entertainment will be performed by Keely Allen. Members, Guests, and Visitors are always welcome.

A great afternoon of fun, friendship and bowls was held at our Bowls Club for Australia Day!

We welcomed old friends Joan Tennant and Nick Tull from Burrum Heads who joined us for the day.

Extra prize money was always a bonus but just getting out on the green for a day of bowls was well worth the effort in this hot and humid weather!

Saturday 27 January 2024:

Exciting day out on our greens today with the final of the Ladies Open Four and two first round games in Men’s Open Pairs, as well as social pairs.

A fitting end to the Ladies Open Fours with a hard fought game resulting in a one point win to Team Lorelle over Team Meredith.

Team Lorelle took control of the game during the opening stages leading 7/1 on end four.

They were then stuck on 7 for three ends meanwhile team Meredith bridged the gap to bring the score to 7/5 on end six.

Team Lorelle had another surge until they hit the dreaded 13 on end eleven and there they sat for three ends while team Meredith edged closer 13/12.

A 2 by team Meredith on end fifteen tied the score 14 all! 

However it was team Meredith‘s turn to get stuck on 14 for three ends while team Lorelle added a 5 to take the score to 19/14 on end sixteen.

Team Meredith, never Ladies to throw in the towel came back with a 2, a 3 and a 2 to come within one point on the final nail biting end.

Final score 22/21 to Team Lorelle.

Gun team Ian Goodhew and Rowdy Taylor had a win over Greg McLaughlin and Phil Nelson.

George Weir and Greg Madsen had a one point win over Archie Bishop and Robbie Royan.

Only one Winning Rink draw today and that came from the social rinks:

Sunday 28 January 2024:

Today we had another game in the first round of the Open Mens Pairs as well as social paddle pop draw triples.

The Open Mens Pairs resulted in a win to Team Strano over Team Kirby.
