Work is continuing to ensure Wallaville residents have better access to more reliable water as Bundaberg Regional Council constructs a new water transfer pipeline from Gin Gin.

The new water transfer pipeline, which will connect water from the township of Gin Gin to Wallaville, is under construction with pipework currently being installed.

The current Wallaville Water Treatment Plant was identified as at end of life during a 2019 condition assessment.

Council recognised the new water transfer pipeline as the most effective way to improve the reliability of water supply to the Wallaville community.

The project will also reduce operating and production costs as the water will be processed at the Gin Gin Water Treatment Plant.

Engineering assessments determined the installation of a transfer pipeline from Gin Gin to Wallaville was the most effective way to improve the customer service standards for the reliability of supply and safe drinking water to the Wallaville community.

Installation of Stage 1 pipework began in December 2023 and is now complete.

This included a pipeline installation from the reticulation pipework in Rieck Street Gin Gin to an under-bore crossing at the Bruce Highway on the south side of Gin Gin.

Stage 2 is currently underway and will see pipework installed from the Bruce Highway, along Drinan and Wallaville-Goondoon Roads, across the Wallaville Bridge and through the township of Wallaville.

These operations include excavations on the road verge and under-bores of local services as required, with traffic control measures in place for the safety of the community and Council’s workers.

Construction of a re-chlorination pump station will begin later in the year and will be connected to the transfer pipeline to ensure the water quality is monitored and still meets the required standards after its 12 km trip.

Commissioning of the new transfer pipeline and pump station is planned for early 2025.

The existing Water Treatment Plant and Water Tower will then be taken off-line and demolished.
