Woodgate Bowls

Tuesday 27 February: Ladies Day, social competition with a game in the Open Ladies Singles and what a game it was, worthy of being a final!

Cheryl Goodhew played Robyn Bishop in a game of changing fortunes!

Cheryl took the first points but then as so often happens, was stuck on 3 for 4 ends while Robyn crept up to 7. Robyn then led until end 9, when Cheryl took the lead 11/8.

Cheryl again was stuck on 11 for 10 ends would you believe while Robyn  surged up to 22, leading on end 18, 22/11. End 19 saw Cheryl put the hammer down and it was Robyn’s turn to be stuck on 22 for 5 ends!

Robyn broke the drought with a 2 on end 23 to make the score to 24/20, end 24 Cheryl scored a 2, (24/22) end 25 Cheryl took a 3 to win the match 25/24.

What a game, have to say we social bowlers gave up pretending to play our game and just stood and watched the last couple of exciting ends.

Thanks to Michelle Wood who marked the match and Rob Anderson who stood as Umpire for the day!

Saturday 2 March: What a feast of bowls we had today, three games in the Open Mens Singles as well as social pairs games.

Mens Open Singles: Rowdy Taylor had a win over Robbie Hannah:

Rowdy was having a purple patch with his bowls today, everything he did turned to gold!

Robbie put some great bowls down but Rowdy swooped down and took the points and the match! Col Ensby had a win over Garry Willoughby in another exciting game, the more experienced Col took the match with some great bowls.

Bob Winzar had a win over Trevor Christensen in a game of ones and twos!

Christo had bowls in the head on every end but Bob showed what a campaigner he is by coming in to take shot from under Christo’s nose!

Thanks to our markers and Umpire, without these men giving up their afternoon we wouldn’t have competition games.
