Xanadu will delight pop culture fans during a special screening at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre.

Starring the beloved late Australian actress and singer Olivia Newton-John, 80s cult classic Xanadu will delight pop culture fans during a special screening at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre.

First released in 1980 Xanadu featured an unconventional story, which blended the golden age of 1940s MGM musicals and 1980s new wave music.

The film featured choreographed dance and roller-skating routines which added to its whimsical charm.

Directed by Robert Greenwald, the mind-bending, disco-era melodrama follows the journey of the magical and beautiful Greek muse Kira, played by Olivia Newton-John.

Xanadu cast and soundtrack

Olivia Newton-John is positively luminous in her performance as Kira, tap dancing, singing and skating into the hearts of film goers.

Late American dancer, actor, singer and choreographer, Gene Kelly delivered his final film and dance performance in Xanadu.

A highlight of his performance is the scene were Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton-John sing and dance their way through the duet Whenever You’re Away from Me.

The soundtrack was a worldwide success receiving positive reviews from music critics.

All songs were composed especially for the movie, with five written by Jeff Lynee of the English rock band Electric Light Orchestra.

Cliff Richard is also featured on the soundtrack on the signature love song Suddenly, which he recorded with Olivia Newton-John.
