The popular Bargara Turtle Playground is set for a makeover including the refurbishment of shade sails and a new splash of paint.
The works will be completed in time for the Milbi Festival in November and the area will be temporarily closed while works are undertaken.
Bundaberg Regional Council parks and gardens portfolio spokesperson Cr Wayne Honor said the work would include refurbishment of the playground, replacing the worn shade sails and improving the surrounding grassed areas.
He said the playground would be closed to the public from Wednesday, 9 October while work is undertaken.
“In recognition of how popular this park is with residents and tourists alike, we scheduled these works to take place after the September school holidays with the goal of seeing it completed in time for the Milbi Festival,” Cr Honor said.
“The turtle playground will keep its much-loved colour scheme but will be rejuvenated by the new coat of paint.
“Council staff will also repair and replace irrigation infrastructure and repair the permanent soft fall around the playground area.
“This project is all part of Council’s commitment to enhancing play areas throughout the region.”
Bargara Turtle Playground temporary closure
The Turtle Playground will be temporarily closed from Wednesday afternoon, 9 October.
In addition, some nearby pathways and carparks will be closed and rerouted for safety of community during the project period.
“Access to the pathway surrounding the playground will be reinstated on weekends where practical,” Cr Honor said.
“There will also be four carparks that will be cordoned off and utilised by work crews while the upgrades are taking place.”
Both the toilets and the main pathway closest to the road will remain open during this period.
Works are expected to be completed by mid-November, weather permitting.

Super improvements happening at our beaches but how about some water jets for the kids to play in, they love them?
